“Never watch CSK chase without BP tablets” this is an ongoing meme that’s been going around for years. This mocks CSK’s slow and steady approach of chasing. Though this is frustrating to watch, this is the reason for CSK to win 5 IPL and 2 CLT20 trophies. Yes this is a less entertaining way of playing cricket but this is an effective way of playing cricket.
Many players have said this about Dhoni’s vision of cricket, how he likes to take the game till the end to finish it off in style. Let’s say ‘Never lose control of the game’ is the core of this concept. CSK may need 70 or 80 even 100 more runs to win but you cannot write them off. As they know when to accelerate and when to shift the gears. They dictate the pace of the game, they do not let the oppisition take control of the game at any point. This culture is deeply injected in the veins of CSK. Seasons change, Players may change, Captains may change, Oppositions may change but CSK’s ‘BP Tablet’ approach of a game stays on.
Yes they don’t score much runs in the powerplay, but they don’t lose unnecessary wickets. Even with only 5 overs remaining CSK seem to have scored lesser runs than their opponents, but they’ll have two in-form batters on the pitch ready to explode any moment. This approach might fail sometimes, but even when they lose, they lose with the controller in their hands. Even the bad team might win but the only the Best team can control the game and win titles.
