Tamil Nadu has set a new benchmark in Indian sports with the announcement of the Chief Minister’s Trophy 2025, unveiled by Hon. Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. With a staggering ₹37 crore prize pool, this tournament is being hailed as the biggest state-level sports initiative in India, reflecting Tamil Nadu’s growing commitment to grassroots sports development.
The tournament has already captured massive attention, recording an unprecedented 16.28 lakh registrations across the state – a record-breaking achievement in the history of Tamil Nadu’s sporting events. Athletes from schools, colleges, local communities, differently-abled groups, and even government employees have registered to compete, ensuring a truly inclusive celebration of sports.
Structure of the Tournament
The competition began at the district and zonal levels on September 12, 2025, and will progress to the state-level finals between October 2 and October 14, 2025. Matches will be held across 13 key districts, including Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Thanjavur, and Thoothukudi.
Athletes will showcase their talents in 38 sports disciplines, covering both individual and team events. More than 30,000 district and zonal champions will advance to the state finals, making the championship one of the largest grassroots tournaments in the country.

Prize Distribution
The Tamil Nadu government has ensured that the rewards match the scale of the event:
- Individual Winners (State Level): ₹1 lakh for first place, ₹75,000 for second place, and ₹50,000 for third place.
- Team Winners (State Level): ₹75,000 for each member of the winning team, ₹50,000 each for runners-up, and ₹25,000 each for third place finishers.
Beyond monetary benefits, the competition will offer scholarships, recognition, and career opportunities for talented athletes, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s position as a frontrunner in sports promotion.
Esports Makes Debut
A major highlight of Chief Minister’s Trophy 2025 is the inclusion of Esports as an official category for the first time. This move reflects the government’s vision of embracing modern sporting trends while preserving traditional sports, bridging the gap between emerging digital athletes and conventional disciplines.
Digital Transformation
For the first time in India, such a large-scale sports event will be fully digitized.
- Athletes and fans can track registrations, results, and profiles through the official portal – www.tncmtrophy.sdat.in.
- A WhatsApp bot has also been introduced to provide real-time updates on schedules, scores, and match results, making the tournament highly accessible to the public.
Government’s Vision
Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin highlighted that the event is “more than just a tournament”. It aims to create opportunities, recognize talent, and inspire every youngster in Tamil Nadu to embrace discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
He emphasized, “This is not just about prizes or medals. It is about building hope, confidence, and a culture of sports in every corner of Tamil Nadu.”
With its historic prize money, record participation, and digital-first approach, the Chief Minister’s Trophy 2025 is poised to redefine the sports landscape in Tamil Nadu and set an example for the rest of the country.
